And More Pics

At the top of the stairs, there's a half wall sort of thing and you can look down into the living room and dining room. Em absolutely loves when we look at her from up there or when she gets to look down at someone. I started taking pictures because it was so cute and I asked Harp to come look down, too. When he came up next to me, this was her expression. =)

Emmy in Daddy's brew bucket.

My girl and her cute teeth. =)

More Pics

This is Emily stuck in her lion. She was doing something and fell backwards right into the hole and couldn't get out.

Emily in her new crib! The first couple nights were a little rough because she's slept in the Pack 'N Play for months. But now she's a happy crib-sleeper. =)

Uncle Quin got Emily this rocking lion for Christmas. She thinks it's great! It roars when you pinch its ear. So cute! =)

Emily eating O's in her new high chair. She's never had a high chair. I think she really likes it. =)

This was Em's first ride on her lion. For days afterward, she would motion toward the lion and make little noises to say "put me on that thing, someone!!"

Look Emily's big pants!! =)

The Rest of the Day

So we went to get Kansas license plates. Or one, actually. They don't have front plates here. We had to have a vehicle inspection and all that consisted of was checking the VIN and making sure it was the same as our title. We go back in February to renew our plates. Kind of a weird system, I think, but the A's renew in February.

So then Harp took me to Quiznos. I pretty much can't go out without wanting to eat. But having enough protein is keeping me from feeling pukey, so I am really glad.

Then we went to Home Depot and spent a $100 gift card plus about $12. We got 2 toilet seats, a sprayer for the kitchen sink, a CO detector, some nifty rubber broom, a coat hook rack, a hook for robes for the bathroom, and some fire extinguishers. I think that's it.

Em was one well-distracted baby with all of that, so she wasn't so cranky. She's having a nap now. She looks so little today for some reason. Like she's my little tiny baby again. Maybe because she's acting so helpless, lol.

Guess how much unpacking I've done today? That's right, about none. But I did take all the decorations off the Christmas tree and leave them all over the floor and couch. What progress!

Cranky Kid

Emily finally had her new tooth poke through. She had a really hard time going to sleep last night and she woke up a few times before we went to bed. I heard her cry around 2am, but she was back asleep as soon as the cry was let out. She woke up early and she has been cranky all day. She's tired and her gums hurt and I do feel bad for her, but it's mostly annoying. I'm glad Harp is here.

Nate and Harper got our washer and dryer this morning. Yay, I can do laundry! Well, almost. It's still not hooked up and I need to clean out the dryer vent. But I'm so glad to have a washer and dryer.

The house is still a disaster and I'm ready to make myself sick cleaning it all in one day just so it can be done. Harp's been home all week and we haven't done much at all because we're always running errands or really tired.

Nursing

So I ended up deciding to not quit cold turkey. I nursed Em around 2 yesterday and at bedtime. Today I nursed in the morning and I will again at bedtime. Emily is eating SO MUCH FOOD! I can't believe it. She even nursed before breakfast and she ate a TON of yogurt, a bunch of O's and half a banana.

Gotta go unpack!

How Do I Do It?

This morning, I woke up feeling so weak and exhausted that I decided not to nurse Em. I want to quit cold turkey, but I just read on the internet that it can damage breast tissue. I am ready to stop. It hurts right now and I almost want to nurse so it won't hurt anymore but I feel so weak that I don't want to give Em my milk. The doctor said it wouldn't be bad for the new baby to keep nursing Em but it sure doesn't make a bit of sense right now. Today I got up from the couch to get a drink of water and I had to sit down in the middle of the kitchen. I have slept or just rested on the couch pretty much all day long and then I took a bath. I threw up this morning when I woke up and I can't see how puking what I eat and giving Em milk can be good for the baby. Maybe I need to just nurse morning and night for a little while. This is no fun. =( How did you wean your kids?

12.27.2005

Pregnancy

I sorta remember last time feeling like I needed to eat but I was totally stuffed. I feel that way pretty much all the time. I think part of it is because I'm still nursing Emily. I am craving butter like crazy. I want popcorn, baked potatoes, buttered noodles, soft pretzels... Anything that can serve as a vehicle for butter. I think I need to wean my little lady. =( She drank out of a straw last night, so that's exciting. I feel like she's big enough. We turned her carseat around today. But I think nursing her is part of the reason I'm dying for fat and it's probably not good for Tobylaine. Em's almost 1 anyway. Only 5 more days!

Well, now that we're here alone, we better start unpacking again and putting things away. =)

Fun Times

I'm sad that my parents are going back tomorrow. We had a lot of fun together. I got them into Set. My sister, at least. =) And we played with Em alot and today we went shopping. My parents got Em some really cool drums for her birthday. And some clothes and slippers and tights. They are all so cute. Em got lots of really cute clothes for Christmas and a talking telephone toy and some really cool books (Millie Moo and That's Not My Bear are great feely books and she got some cool non-feely books too) and some stuffed animals and alphabet magnets. She got tons of presents, but she was so excited about her phone that it kept distracting her from opening more. =) Quin got her this huge rocking lion that roars when you squeeze his ear. She loves it. I can't wait to post pictures but they are on the other computer and I don't know how to get internet access on it. Harp got me a new camera for Christmas and I am SO excited! It's way better than my old camera and my old one was really starting to go crazy, too. Quin, Laurin, and I got Harp brew stuff. Quin got him the whole brew kit and Laurin got bottles and I got books with recipes and stuff about how to brew. So he is really excited to start some beer. Harp and my parents went to see a movie and I'm home with Emmy (who is sleeping). I may go to bed really early. I think I'm going to finish my grandma's scrapbook so my parents can take it to her tomorrow. I still have Grandy and Bill's to finish and Nonny and Poppy's, but I will mail them. Grandy's has to be mailed because she's in CA and Nonny's there's no way I could finish tonight. I am so excited to have a belly. I tried on clothes today at Motherhood with the stuffed belly and it was so fun. Of course nothing fits now because I really wasn't all belly... I put my jeans on that I bought in the middle of October last time (that would be 28 weeks) and they are SO HUGE. The legs are just enormous and they fit me tight by December. You can pinch inches of fabric in the legs. Many inches. Wow. I still can't wait to fit into them, lol. They are my favorite jeans. I will be 8 weeks on Thursday. Don't remember when I started throwing up last time, but I hope it was by now. I have felt a little sick sometimes, but not like throwing up. I know that by 11 weeks, I was pretty much done throwing up (unless I gagged on something or Q-tipped my right ear). Okay well I better work on that scrapbook and go to bed.

12.25.2005

Girl Name

It's not totally for sure or anything, but our girl name is probably going to be Elaine or Elaina and we'd call her Lainey. We like Elaine better but Elaina sounds better with middle names. Oh, but Elaina sounds awful with Abbot. Help me think of a middle name for Elaine.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, everyone! We went to the best ever Christmas Eve service last night. It was very cool and kind of simple at the same time. They read OT prophecy and the fulfillments in the NT (of course not all of it or that would have taken forever, but they did quite a few major ones) and the whole thing was pretty much about prophecy and the gospel and the songs were stuck in between readings. It was just really cool because it made you think about the songs more and in a different way sometimes. They gave out The Case for Christmas, which is kind of a shortened version of The Case for Christ. And they gave out 1/2 pound Hershey's bars to everyone. And then after the service, they had a live nativity scene outside with goats and bunnies and tiny horses and stuff. It was so cool and the kids all got to pet the animals. Then my sister got a peppermint creme pie at Village Inn and we ate it up and played Oodles and Set. It was really fun.

So today I got to announce that I'm pregnant. I made scrapbooks for our family and they were of our 2005. Each 2-page spread was a different month and it had pictures and things we did that month. On December, it said we found out Emily is a big sister. My mom read the whole thing before she got there and we have it all on video. It was great! =) My sister actually found out yesterday because she asked when Em would get a sibling and I tried to think of something to say, but I couldn't think of anything, lol.

So if it's a boy, his name is Tobias Quinton. TobyQ, Tobit, Tobes, Toebag... =) We like the name, lol. I don't have a girl name at all, so you can give me input. I liked Leah but Harp doesn't like Leah Abbot. Okay well I'm going to go back upstairs before I'm deaf. The music is playing down here so it can be heard upstairs. Whoa, and it's way past time for Em to have milk.

Merry Christmas!!!

12.21.2005

Who?

"Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?" Matt 6 & Luke 12

That's right. I'm done with being stressed out about Christmas stuff and my parents coming and whatnot. If nobody gets their Christmas present until January, fine! If nobody gets a Christmas letter until Easter, fine! If my house is still a mess tomorrow, fine! If we eat baked potatoes for every single meal the whole time my parents are here, fine! If I don't get laundry to a laundromat and get it all done tonight and we wear pajamas all day, all weekend, fine! Ha!!!!! =) =) =) =)

I'm rejoicing in the Lord! =) =) =) =) =) =)

Woo Hoo!

So we have almost everything moved into our house now! Some of it's hanging out in the garage and some is still at the other apartment (which we have until Dec 31). I'm missin' my hubby extra lately. I guess because at home all I do is unpack and it's sorta hard with my little chica. I wish I could let her adventure, but there is stuff everywhere. I've kept her room an okay adventure zone (with supervision because I know the second I leave, the coax cable will be in her mouth. I'm going to pull it out of her room, I think. We take adventure breaks and play in her room and the rest of the time she's in her play pen or high chair. Or we snuggle on the couch. Or come down here and blog and Em sits on my lap bouncing to Chris Tomlin. This girl LOVES music. And she loves to dance. She smiles SO big when I dance around the living room. It's so fun. She gets a little antsy between songs.

Well today, Papa is coming home for lunch. I have no idea what we will eat because most of our food is still at the other apartment. He'll only have about 30 min because it takes a while to get here and back. I need the car to get a new speedometer cable (yeah we have no idea how fast we're going) and to get some pictures at Walmart. And I think that's all. We still have to get thigns ready to mail for Christmas. We probably won't have anything to anyone on time this year. =( Quin's quilt is going to end up being way late. I would rather be working on it than cleaning and unpacking but I can't just leave the house a mess because my family is coming tomorrow. I'm excited, but not about cleaning. =)

I don't know when I'll get caught up with everyone's blogs. We just got internet access today and there's a lot to read! Better go get back to unpacking.

12.17.2005

Movin', Movin'!

We're ready to get our truck and head to the storage unit! SO exciting! We closed last night and took some stuff down to the house. The gas was turned off (pretty long story), so it was freeeezing and we came back to the apartment. They said they can't turn the gas on until Friday, but (long story again) they may come today if the guy can fit it into his schedule. He'll just call me 30 min before he can be there. Better go change a diaper and get the girl in her snowsuit!

Oh No

Now he says DivX for a middle name...

Now he says Linnix for a first name... Linnix DivX? lol

I guess at least it's not Cubic Cyllidrical.

Helix?

What is it with the geometric names? Harp says we're going to name our next daughter Helix. It satisfies two musts for him: it's math-related and it has an x in it. I think if Sophia and Mark didn't have a Blixx, her name would be Blixx. I don't know if they ended up using one x or two. Hmm... Harp says how about Sophix? ::sigh::

Breakin' My Heart!

Over the last couple of days, I've noticed that my milk supply has gotten lower. Em was a little upset about it and I thought she needed something more. So I gave her some formula in a sippy cup this morning after she nursed. She took one sip and gave me this absolutely horrified look. I tried to hold the cup for her and get her to drink more and she kept pushing it away and looking at me like "You've got to be kidding!!"
Last time I nursed, she wanted more, wouldn't drink formula, but ate peaches and yogurt. She still asked for milk after that, so I let her try and she didn't get any. So it's been a few hours and I just tried to nurse her and she's not even interested now! How sad is that??
I called her doctor today and he said I can skip formula and give her whole milk so she doesn't have to switch again as soon as she gets used to formula. I hope the whole milk goes over better than the formula.

Today's Slice

Since we started doing this Ravi Zacharias study, I've spent some time on the RZIM website. I signed up for this daily email called "A Slice of Infinity" and I really like reading them. So far, they've all been about Christ's birth in some way. Today's just really struck me. It's nothing new, actually, but I needed to hear it. It's about vulnerability and love. So here it is:

12/15/05
God Little
Ajoy Varghese

If we were asked to describe God, many of us would describe Him with superlatives. We would say that God is great, all-powerful, all-knowing, and present everywhere. Growing up in India, I heard many stories and legends about gods and goddesses doing heroic deeds and vanquishing evildoers with their awesome supernatural power. For many of us, there is widespread belief that if God is on our side, we will win every battle.

To believe that "God is great" does not require much imagination. Yet the Christmas Story is the astounding announcement that God has become little and powerless. In the words of the Greek physician Luke, "Today….a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger" (Luke 2:11-12). Phillip Yancey describes the scene aptly, and perhaps uncomfortably: "The God who roared, who could order armies and empires like pawns on a chessboard, this God emerged in Palestine as a baby who could not speak or eat solid food or control his bladder, who depended on a teenager for shelter, food and love."(1) Why did this happen? Why did the Omnipotent one become so vulnerable?

According to the writers of Scripture, God desires to have an intimate relationship with us. But He wants us to respond freely to his love. If God had given us merely a glimpse of his power, we would have feared Him. If God had given us a glimpse of his brilliance, we would have admired Him. If God had given us a glimpse of his immensity, we would have been awestruck. He has done all these things. But God also desires to give us a glimpse of his love—by becoming vulnerable, defenseless, and dependent so that we understand that we can relate to Him without fear. Nothing is as vulnerable as a human baby.

In his adult public life, Jesus remained vulnerable. Though he did miracles to heal people of physical and spiritual ailments, he steadfastly refused to use them for his own benefit. He often instructed those who were healed to keep the matter to themselves. Even when he was insulted, tortured, stripped and crucified, he refused to draw on his power and respond in like manner; he chose to surrender. The one at whose spoken words hard-nosed and well-trained soldiers fell back restrained himself from reacting to the hecklers who tried to provoke him to prove himself. Even today, he refuses to frighten us by appearing to us as the living, all-powerful Christ but chooses to knock on the door of our hearts so that those who want to relate to him freely and intimately might do so.

Herein lies a great secret of relationships: intimacy goes hand in hand with vulnerability. It explains why Jesus insisted that we must become like little children (who are naturally vulnerable) to enter the kingdom of God.

In the movie Bruce Almighty, Bruce Nolan (played by Jim Carrey) is granted the powers of God for a few days. In spite of his supernatural abilities that enable him to settle some scores, he realizes that the thing that matters most to him is the love of his girlfriend, Grace. He also discovers her love cannot be manipulated or coerced, but must be freely given by her and gained by him. Unable to force his way into her heart, he continues to woo and wait. The process is painful, but cannot be bypassed. For it is the nature of love.

In Jesus, God bares his heart so that He can win ours. For the human heart to respond freely and willingly, God woos and waits, coming as God in all his immensity, incarnate in the vulnerable life of a child.

Tired

I haven't had my cup of coffee today. I was going to try not to, but I think I have to give in.

I took Harp to work this morning so I could have the car. I had to return the Ravi DVD to our Sunday School leader and they live right next to the zoo. The zoo is $1 on Wednesdays after Nov 1, so we went to the zoo. Em was really tired because we had gone shopping for Harp first. We got some Christmas presents and we got him some bottle caps and stuff at the brew shop.

My legs are sore from walking around the zoo. There is a really great zoo here, though. They have a cool jungle building and a big gorilla building. The giraffes don't compare to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, but I don't think I've ever been to another zoo with 21 giraffes. =) We just walked around the Africa part because it was chilly and did the building stuff. Well not the reptiles because I didn't want to carry Em and she wouldn't be able to see anything from her stroller in there. They have a petting zoo and farm animals for the kids, but we didn't go. We'll have to go on a nicer day.

Better go wrap presents so Harp doesn't find 'em. =) And have my coffee!

After All

After rescheduling my wisdom teeth extraction twice, we decided to wait again. I actually went in and sat there for a good long while, waiting to talk to the doctor to see if it could wait. The nurses were supposed to be hooking me up to stuff to knock me out while the doc was eating breakfast. So after he finished breakfast, he came in and said I can wait unless my teeth really start to hurt. Our dental insurance is good - we get $2,000 a year and then some stuff is covered beyond that. But this year it was pro-rated, which means it was really low. So in January we will have a bunch of insurance money. So anyway... I felt kinda bad to ditch out a third time, but so goes it.

I was glad to not have to deal with the milk thing. I got a can of formula so she could have one meal if she needed it before I could nurse again, but I think it would have been pretty bad.

After the appointment, Harp took me to breakfast at Spangles. I hadn't eaten anything because of the surgery, so I was starving. The woman that worked there gave Emily two stuffed toy bugs that vibrate when you pull a string. Emily thought it was pretty bizarre, but then decided it was sort of neat. I don't think they're very exciting yet, but maybe once she figures out she can pull the string, too, she'll like it.

I have become so totally dependent on caffeine. I really should take a nap when Em does but I have been busy making Christmas presents. It's only one cup a day usually, but I never used to drink coffee! Just on Sunday mornings at Crossroads. I suppose I've gotten old, lol, and joined the millions of caffeine-dependent Americans...

I am SO EXCITED about moving into our house! Only 4 more days until closing! And we have people from church that will help us move on Saturday. So, so thankful! We had Nate and Anna and their cell group leader, Laura, and Abu (from LeTU - he doesn't go to our church, but he's here working at Spirit Aerosystems) to help us move over here. I don't know what we'll do about the stuff here because everyone is on the west side and it will be easier having them help with the stuff in storage. I guess on Friday, we'll pack things up here and take some stuff down that night after closing.

Better go work on Christmas presents!! I'm cutting it close!

12.11.2005

Em and Papa today.

Dad and Emmy dancing around. =)

We love Dad!

Funny one...

Mom and Em

Pretty sweetie. This is Em's Christmas dress that my mom bought her. She wore it to the wedding last night and she was the prettiest lady there. =)

A classic Emily Face. =)

Those beautiful eyes... And cracked nose. =( She was really runny for a while and her nose cracked. So sad!

Prayer Request!

So, I haven't posted in a while, but a lot has been going on. Harper's uncle, Brad, had his wisdom teeth out on Friday and has been in the hospital since with Strep A. It's really serious and the specialist doc said at his point he has a 50/50 chance of surviving, maybe 60/40 (good, not bad). He has some sort of a heart problem that was caused by this and his kidneys aren't working. They said if they stopped any of the things they are doing for him, he would be dead in an hour. So pray for him and his family. Judy is his wife and their kids are Brittany and Brandon. Candace is Judy's daughter, too - she's in Greeley. And Candace's son is Brittan. Harp's parents flew down to Dallas yesterday and Stewart headed back today.

In other news, I'm getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow! After two reshedules because we weren't in the computer for the insurance company. This whole thing with Uncle Brad caused me to rush to Walmart today for some antibiotics. It's not at all worth that kind of risk to not take them! Tomorrow may be pretty hard. Harp's going to stay with me for a bit. He doesn't have to go back to work, but he's going to try to. Emmy can't have my milk until 4 hours after I'm done with the surgery, so she may have to have some formula. Hope that isn't too much of a disaster. She's never had anything but Momma's milk and only tried (pretty unsuccessfully) drinking out of a bottle a couple of times. I will use a sippy cup or regular cup this time for sure.

Well... We shot a video of a wedding last night. Actually, Harp did it all. My camera is in storage, so we did it with just one. We didn't know the people and I didn't stay for most of the wedding because it was really long and Em was tired. So I hung out in the hall talking to Kathy Almeter! It was fun to catch up and say hi. =) Then we went to the reception and Harp videoed that. It was too hard to get people to leave messages because it was SO loud. My ears hurt when we left and I even tried to stay away from the noise. I felt really bad for Emmy. She didn't seem to mind, but I bet her little ears felt it, too. The only messages we got were from people on the elevator. Harp thinks he got about 20. But they are mostly just "Congratulations" and that's it. So we may scrap it all, I don't know. It will be nice to edit a one-camera wedding.

We are still waiting on Kevin Scherm's DVD so we can finish his editing and then we have Nate and Anna's to do and the Father-Daughter Banquet. So these people were warned that it wouldn't be soon that they'd get their DVD. To add to all that delay, our desktop computer is going nuts and it won't start up. We need stuff in the storage unit to be able to fix it. If we lost Kevin's video, I'm going to put it at the end of the list.

Well I'm going to go hang with my hubby and catch up on the Ravi series (we were sick last week, so we borrowed the DVD today).

My Big Little Lady

My little lady is growin' big! Her hair is down to the bottom of her ears and to her eyebrows in front. Wow!

I found a GREAT pediatrician. I like him a whole lot! Took Em in and he said her earache was probably just because she was getting teeth. He asked questions and asked if I had questions. And he played with Em with her Junior Asparagus. =)

Went to a fun party last night with the married people Sunday School group. We have been going to this group even though we found out it's supposed to be for people married 5 years or less with no kids. =P Oops. We went 2 weeks before we knew about the no kids thing. But now we're into a good series (Deliver Us From Evil, by Ravi Z). =)

Anyway I'm going to go play with Emmy. =) =)

12.08.2005

A very happy face because Lorna learned how to crawl! Okay, so Em doesn't know yet and I took this picture this morning. But hooray for Lorna learning to crawl!!! =) Gonna go get Emmy out of bed and tell her. =)
