Make Mine Pink

I just remembered this as I was reading someone's blog entry that mentioned their pink kitchen counters...

Harp's parents have a pink bathroom. Pink tile, pink bathtub, pink sink, pink potty. Emily really liked the pink potty. A lot. We got home and a couple of times she asked if we could make our potty pink too. =)

Today

Today was SO long! Not in a bad way, but it just was. We made cookies, did dishes and cleaned up the kitchen, got all the cross stitch stuff organized and upstairs, took lots of pictures, worked out (kinda), used Sculpey clay to do the girls' footprints (and burned Em's in the oven), I did the Beth Moore study and some other study of my own (I don't know what Michael Pearl says about the eight kingdoms in his new book, but his thing in NGJ about the kingdom of God and the kingdom of heaven being different is just totally ridiculous), made 90% of a bunch of accordion albums. Just need to put the covers on and ribbon around them. One is completely done. What else? I don't know, we played piano and played with Lainey a whole lot. And read tons of books. And watched two VeggieTales we got from the library ('cause I couldn't wait! I hadn't seen either of them.)...

Oh we canceled the girls' thing because the roads are just too bad. Harp has Friday off (yay for 9x80) so tomorrow is sure to be fun just because it's the last day of his week. =) Well hmm we were going to read Nehemiah together but Harp's reading another book now. Maybe I'll see if he wants to take a break. =P Blog ya later!

Dressing Up

When we knew we weren't going to the fellowship thing on Friday, we put our dresses on just for fun. =)

Sister Pics

Tummy time! =)

Where's Emmy? There she is!!

Girls in the dresses Candace got them.

Girls in their kitty overalls from Grandma B.

LJ is so happy! =)

I called them chocolate love muffins 'cause they wore brown shirts under their love shirts. This is right before we left for church and they weren't very happy. Too bad I didn't get a good pic! Maybe another day.

Em and Lainey love each other! =)

Cute Sleeper

I thought she looked like tobyMac on the Momentum/Remix album, but I looked at the album just now and nope. =( Oh well. It was cute anyway!

Denial & An Assortment of Things

What do the Abbot girls do on a chilly, snowy day? Heat the play room with the space heater so it's too hot even for a tank top and take summery pictures. =) Okay I didn't really have props but I took pics of the girls in summer clothes. =) It was very fun. Now, if only I could find the camera cable...

Tonight is the first night of the girls' Bible study. I have Earl Grey Tea cookies in the fridge, waiting to be cut (they're rolls) and baked. Did I say we're going to do a tea party tonight? We are. And talk about the study and get started on a cross stitch. Probably all we will get to do is help them design their patterns and teach the basics but I think most of them know the basics so that's good. I still need to go buy some stuff (more needles & fabric) but the roads are so bad! Maybe after naps we'll venture out though.

I think I'm gonna do my Beth Moore study, then time how long it takes to make some of those accordion albums and then umm maybe take teacups upstairs and the cross stitch books. And I have to sweep and do some dishes.

I worked out today! Kind of. It was hard for me! I swung Em around hammocked in a blanket, did the train thing for sit-ups and did those leg press things doing airplane with her in the air. She is the perfect weight for me and it's fun for both of us. =) And we danced a lot and got dizzy. =) I should do it every day.

Emily woke up at 1am. Aaaaaah! She keeps waking up SO early. Every morning we tell her to go back to bed and she does and I think she even sleeps, but I don't know why she's getting up so early. And she acts tired pretty much all day. Even when Kendra was over, Em wanted to lie down and suck her thumb and watch Kendra play. Katy said that's what Levi was like before the gluten-free diet. Maybe I should be writing down what we eat and see if there is anything she's eating that's affecting her. Well a good thing is she has been super-sweet even though she's been tired. Usually tired = getting into everything. But she has been such a good girl. I don't really know what's up!

Okay better get busy before I squander the whole naptime. =)

1.30.2007

Today

Today, Kendra and Diana came over. That was fun. Em took less than an hour nap today and Lainey has hardly slept at all either because her teeth are bugging her. =( Lainey isn't sleeping right now, actually, and she's keeping Em awake I'm sure. Bummer. CK is coming over and maybe Nellie. Oh they're here! Bye!

1.29.2007

Busy Girl

Yesterday at church, Em and I were in one bathroom stall and Kendra was in the next one.

Kendra: Emily, can I play with you?
Emily: No.
Kendra: Why not?
Emily: I'm pee-peein'.
Kendra: Oh. Well can I play with you after you pee?
Emily: Yeah!

Words

Thing I'm gonna miss or already do:

bixix = biscuits
bixick = biscuit
wa-yer = water
yainey-doy-ee = lainey joy
yuntz = lunch (which could mean breakfast, lunch, or dinner)
yaina = alaina
yuv-you so much, Momma!

Prayin' For Mommy

Oh yeah! I think this is so awesome. =) The other day, when we were cleaning out the garage, I came in and told Emmy "Mommy's having a bad attitude!" She looked at me totally shocked and then folded her hands and bowed her head to pray for me. So we prayed together that God would change my heart and give me a sweet attitude and He did! =) Ohhh, I'm so proud of my girl!

Hi

Well I'm baffled. I don't know where my camera cable is. We cleaned the basement finally. Well there is a box of pics to go on the wall and Harp is going to help me with that (I can't decide where to put anything!) and a box of stuff to go to the garage but it's too heavy for me to carry, so Harp will do that later, too. So my camera cable shouldn't be hard to find. Hmmmm.

Well Lainey was in the Greeley paper yesterday. I haven't looked to see if the article is online today, but it wasn't yesterday. It was babies of 2006. =) I'm sure she was the cutest one. Grandma and Grandpa say so, too. =)

Harp and Dustin made a bunch of brew on Sat. Harp went to Dustin's house and they did his and then they came over here and did Harp's. Yesterday was the potluck and I just made brownies because we didn't plan ahead. After church, Harp got some ginger and boiled it to add to his ginger ale. We just wanted it stronger. =) There wasn't small group last night. Instead it was the State of the Union church meeting. =) That was fun (not joking). I talked to Dawn quite a bit. They are pretty new at CrossWinds and I really like them. She has a boy and then 5 girls. =) Two of them are twins and they'll be in the study CK and I are doing. As if things haven't changed enough, we might do a study that Dawn has that's based on the Proverbs 31 woman. I'm totally excited because I wasn't 100% sure what I was going to do. =) And she has 3 sewing machines and would help, so we could even do some sewing! I need to talk to CK because she's been in Oklahoma since Friday and she got back late last night.

Anyway what else? The ladies group started Beyond Yourself, the Beth Moore study on Galatians. I really am not a very big Beth Moore fan. I think she reads into some things stuff that's not there and sometimes takes things out of context. I know it's our job no matter who or what we read to examine the scriptures and see if it's true, so I'm not ready to quit the study, but I do think it's a little annoying. But still a good conversation starter and probably an overall good study - we'll see. =)

I like having a clean basement. And clean house. Oooh, it feels good. I actually came down here to look through old pics to see what I want to print to put on the walls. Harp doesn't want it to be all pictures of Em and Lainey but those are all my favorite pictures, of course! =) And I don't really have many pictures of friends because I feel silly just randomly getting my camera out. I think most people don't like to have their picture taken.

Well I guess I should find pics and also call Dawn and CK. Later! =)

Craft Night & Elizabeth

Craft night wasn't all that fun, except for hanging out with people. I was recovering a chair and I didn't get a whole lot done. I cut apart the old cover, used it as a pattern to cut the new cover, and only stitched two seams. I need to rip one out. =( Poo. There is another craft night in 2 weeks but I don't want to work on the chair again. So I might try to get it done during the girls' naps this week.

Harper and Mike played Wii while Felicity and I were at craft night.

Random info: If we have another girl, her name will likely be Elizabeth (Lizzie). It sorta came about because Harp likes how Em calls Felicity 'Lissy.' Hey if it was Elisabeth, we could call her Lissy. Hmm... =)

Funny Girl

Emily is getting so good at making sentences. Yesterday, she went to the basement and said "Whatcha doin', Daddy-O? Playing Zelda?" Hahaha! So cute! He doesn't let her watch him play Zelda, but I guess she's heard us talk about it. =)

Yesterday, Harp and Em were in the garage and they found a thing of sunscreen. Harp told Em it was sunscreen and she said "Oh! Sunscreen on Emmy's pillow." He said "What? You have sunscreen on your pillow?" And she giggled and said "Funny joke!!" Harp thought that was hilarious. But then later he realized what she meant. She has been sleeping on her huge Bob & Larry pillow story book that Quin got her. In the story, the Sunburn Kid keeps putting sunscreen on himself and cows and stuff. Or maybe it was T-shirts on cows to protect them from the sun. Anyway it's a funny joke. =P

This morning, Emily told me someday she's going to have a baby boy in her belly. =P

She told me the other day out of the blue that I should make a quilt with a hammer on it for Dustin and Ginger's baby boy. =) She's already creative, hehe!

1.26.2007

Math Girl

Oh! We were at JoAnn's a couple days ago and Em pointed to the fabric scanners and said "Two of 'em!" I said "Yeah! There are two. But wait I see another one over there! How many are there now?" And she counted slowly "One...two...three of 'em!" Maybe coincidence, but still coolness to a math-lovin' momma. =)

It's Been Three Days?

Haven't blogged in a few days. Crazy!

Well I am going to craft night tonight. Harp said I shouldn't go to fellowship group because I made a commitment to do craft night. He's right. And I'm excited for craft night again. I have a ton of projects I might take and just do whatever I get to. Maybe I'll get a ton done. I'm going to take a jacket of Em's that I need to finish putting buttons on, a skirt of hers that I need to put an adjustable band in, a bunch of Harp's jeans to patch, that chair to cover, the stuff for finger puppets, probably some square thingies that I really don't know how to describe but I'll try in a sec to paint, and doll clothes patterns to make a new pattern for an old-fashioned dress for Raven's doll. I also have a few things to hand stitch. And last night, I found the measurements for a bed jacket that I was going to make for Grandy. I have the fabric and everything, so now I just need to adjust a pattern and make it. I don't know if I'll do it tonight because I already had so many other things planned but there is another craft night in 2 weeks so maybe I can do it then. I will take the stuff anyway in case I get everything done.

I also want to finish digitizing some embroidery designs of Sunbonnet Sue girls for tea towels. I got one of those iron transfer packages at Salvation Army and scanned them. I have digitized two already, I think. When I'm done, I can make everyone I know Sunbonnet Sue tea towels. =P lol, I mostly think it's cool that I can digitize them. I like Sunbonnet Sue, too. Em's quilt that I made her is Sunbonnet Sue. And Grandma had a Sunbonnet Sue quilt that I always liked. I think that's why I like her, come to think of it. Sunbonnet Sue, that is, not my grandma. =)

Oh, speaking of my grandma, something horrible happened this morning. I have a picture but I don't know where the camera cable is. I have this donkey bank that my mom got for my grandma a long time ago (like before my parents were married, I'm pretty sure). I used to feed it money at Grandma's house. Mom gave it to me a couple years ago. When we moved, somehow it got a chunk out of its neck. But today Em tried to pull it off her dresser (which is in her closet - I thought this was the safest ever place for the bank) and it dropped on the floor and broke into a million pieces. =( I don't even know what to do with it. It feels so bad to throw it away but it can't be fixed. Well I guess I could try to glue the big pieces back together but there are so many tiny pieces all over that it would look really ugly. =( Sorry, Mom! =(

Well what else is news? I know there is stuff I have been forgetting and remembering over and over that I need to blog about but as soon as I sit down to blog, POOF. It's gone. Hmm...

Um, Stephanie, I can't see your blog anymore.

Oh and Katy and Mercy are going to wear our dresses to fellowship tonight so I am really happy that someone will wear them!

Harp took the day off today and we're going to get the basement and the garage CLEAN - for real! And possibly paint the basement. I got the paint and I'm excited, but we want it clean first.

I love how Emily calls Lainey "Joy-Berry" because it's a name Harper made up. We called Em "Berry" when she was little. I think it came from "toe berries" because her little tiny toes looked like berries.

The girls are sharing a room now and it is great! I put all the toys in the other room and I still need to organize it - gotta paint that toy box! I was talking to Nancy Tues night and she said as soon as it was possible, she got all the toys into one room because then their bedrooms stay clean and they always know where their toys are and it's easy for them to just clean up one room of toys. She said she recommended it. =) I thought that was cool because I hadn't told her that's what we just did! They have a toy room at their house, but I hadn't thought about that. Funny! The Keltons did the same thing when they moved and all the toys are in the basement. Katy said it was great. I'm liking it so far too. =) And the girls are doing just fine sharing a room.

Every time I sing "This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long" Emily says "Jesus! Got hurt!" I think we must have sang that song on Communion Sunday because I was telling her what the bread and wine was all about. I think all she remembers is Jesus got hurt. =P

Oh, those boxes. They came out of shadow boxes because we made clocks for Nonny & Poppy and my parents and Harp's parents for Christmas. They are the squares that hold stuff in around the sides, but we couldn't use them in it. So I kept them and I'm going to use them on the wall somewhere with pictures in them.

I have been playing with PC Stitch, this cross stitch design program that Harp's mom gave me, making borders and stuff for the girls' thing. I will let them design their own but I'm just playing with ideas while making mine. =)

Okay I should go help Harp clean!

1.23.2007

Pukealicious

This Friday night is craft night, rescheduled from the week the roads were so bad. I was SO excited. I was going to recover a chair in leather, make Em some finger puppets, and maybe start making a pattern for an American Girls doll dress. I want to make one for Raven for her birthday.

Then Ashley forwarded me the fellowship group email (it goes to Harp so I never get them) that we are going to meet this Friday night and because it is Kansas Day, we're going to dress old-fashioned or cowboy. Now how can I pass that up? I fit into my dress and I haven't worn it since I made it how many years ago?? And Em looks so cute in hers. And Lainey too. =) I so desperately want to go. I almost cried when I read the email.

So I actually don't know where the Kientzes live, but when I find out, I may plan on opening the church and then taking off and having dinner at fellowship group and then going back to the church after dinner. But I know they live in the country and I don't know how far away. Ohhhh, I hope we can go!

Fun

I changed my profile pic for fun. =)

Harp's watching a movie that I quit watching because I was just too lost. I was looking at my library books when important things were happening. =)

Guess I'm gonna get ready for bed so we can go right to sleep when it's over.

Monday Part 2

Harp tried to fill up a CO2 canister on his way home from work but he couldn't get it filled because apparently it still belongs to Pepsi. They don't ever sell them or get rid of them. So he bought another one (got a really good deal on it - $90 full and usually you pay that or more for an empty one, have to pay shipping and then $30 to fill it). He's going to take the Pepsi one to the Pepsi place, wherever that is.

This means we got to have some more-carbonated ginger ale. Good, but next time we'll make it stronger, add more vanilla, use honey... =) I'm glad he has fun experimenting with stuff like this!

We went to the library and I got a bunch of cross stitch books and a scrapbooking book and a sewing stuff for babies book. And a tatting book but I'm thinkin' I'd be in over my head if I attempted that.

Harp went to this surplus store and found huge pieces of "scrap" leather from Cessna Citations for $6/lb. We might make a leather bean bag chair. They go for a lot on eBay so maybe we'll make and sell them. I don't know. We have all these ideas but never actually use them.

I love my girls. They are so fun! Em helped me make pizza tonight. She put the pepperoni all over the pizza, she washed the mushrooms, she took the skin off some garlic, she helped me roll the dough out and moosh it into a circle. =) What a girl!

And I love my hubby. I think maybe I made him sound bad whenever that was that he was playing a video game. I hope not. That is the one and only time he has ever not stopped in the middle of a game if I needed something and I know he was really into it and I didn't want the cable that bad or he probably would have stopped. He is the best. He always warms the car up for his girls, drops us off at the door if it's cold, he cooks probably as often as I do lately... =) And tonight he bought me tulips 'cause I thought they were pretty. =)

Oh I talked to Nancy and to CK and we are going to do a cross stitch first and find out who already sews and all that while we are doing the cross stitching. Smart, huh? =) We are starting a week from Wednesday, so I'm excited!

He Gives and Take Away

Some things we just weren't made to understand. Jonathan and Ashley lost their baby. =( It's something I haven't been through myself so I feel silly saying anything, but I'd feel equally silly not saying anything because I want Ashley to know how much I care. But I can pray for them, which is the best thing to do anyway. So, please pray for them, too. Thanks.

Monday & Stuff

Today has been super-fun so far. I read in Galatians while Em watched A Snoodle's Tale and Lainey played on the floor. We did our toenails. We sprayed some snow on the deck blue. I made a deformed snow angel in jeans and a sweater. Daddy came home for lunch and we had burritos. I made tortillas. Cleaned the kitchen. Thought of a cross stitch I want to do.

Thinkin' about what to do with junior high girls... CK and I are leading a group for them that's going to be on Proverbs. We were going to combine it with sewing lessons and focus part of the study on the Proverbs 31 woman. Then we thought we don't know how many girls will want to come (originally it was just Raven, Shauna, and Brittany, but now there are a couple of new families with girls that age) and how many sewing machines we will have. And we don't know how much they already sew, etc. So this morning when I thought of my cross stitch I want to make (Gal 2:21) I thought hey we could cross stitch instead because that's easy to transport and figure out and they could pick a proverb to do. Cool huh? But I told Harp and he said it's likely they have a sewing machine at home and it is such a good skill to learn that we should do it if it's possible. I think he's right, it's just going to take more effort. And I'm going to have to figure out what to teach them to sew! And figure out how to use their machines, too. =P Maybe I should call CK now. Blog ya later!

Roomies

Well I think it's about time to put the girls together in giraffe room. It's sorta silly to have space heaters in two rooms when we already know they'll do fine sharing a room. We did it in CO for over a week and it was good. I will make Lainey's room the play room for now and leave a Pack N Play in there and probably use it for Lainey's afternoon nap because she usually gets up before Em. That seems smart anyway because then she won't have a hard time sleeping in it when we travel or go to a friend's house.

I still get Lainey up at 10 to feed her. I am only hesitant to drop that feeding because I like to see her sweet little sleepy face in the middle of the night. But I don't think she needs it anymore and she doesn't wake up for it at all, so she won't be missing me. =P In CO, it didn't wake Em up when I went to get Lainey and put her back down, or if it did, it was only for a second and she was back out. So I may put them down together at night. Or I'll put Lainey in the Pack N Play from 8-10 and then in Em's room after I feed her.

My Sweet Family

Fun Weekend

This has been a super-fun weekend! On Friday, I worked on the cakes. Then we went to Dustin and Ginger's house for dinner. Harp and Dustin played some new Halo-ish game and then we all just hung out and talked. The girls went to sleep in their nursery.

Then yesterday we got ready for the party, had friends over from 11:30 until maybe 3. SO fun! Then the girls had a nap and Harp and I cleaned up some and played some Wii. =) Then Harp and Em made a snowman while I called people. Then we went to the Wisners' house. We took the rest of the cake from Em's party. We had dinner with them and then played two long rounds of Mafia. =) It was our first time and it was SO fun. I had heard of the game before, but never had it explained well, so it never sounded fun. It was a blast! I did such a horrible job being the mafia in the second round, but I almost won! It was down to a citizen and the doctor and me. For starting out with 7 people, that's not too bad! I couldn't believe I made it that far because I thought I was dreadfully obvious. Harper thought I was too for a while but I convinced him I was just tired and silly because it was 10:00! Haha! Anyway I want to play more now. =)

Today, church was officially canceled because of the snow but some of us braved it and went and had sort of a fellowship time. We sat in a circle and sang and Jeff read some of 1 Chronicles and talked about it but it was more of an open discussion thing like at the fellowship group we go to sometimes. I wish we met like that every week at CrossWinds. Anyway so then we came home, the girlies are still sleeping, and I posted a bazillion pictures. Tonight we are going to the Wisners' again I think. I think small group is officially canceled because of the weather, but it's a come-and-hang-out-if-ya-wanna-brave-it night. =) Or we might do something with Mike and Lissy. We were going to do lunch but the only things in Derby now are Mexican and Applebee's and I didn't want Mexican at all and they had Applebee's last night. So we all just ate at home. =P Oh there is Rib Crib but that sounded gross to me too. I can't wait for the Japanese steakhouse to open. Mmm!

Okay gonna see what Harp's up to and get my baby-girl up for some leche.

Train of Planes

Snowman Makin'

It was the perfect day for a snowman party! Harp and Em went out and made a snowman after she had a nap. It has a celery stalk nose because I didn't have any carrots. It's cute, though, huh? =)

Party Pics

Nailpolish!! Emily wanted to show it to everyone. There is a blue one, too, but she ran and showed Jonathan first and gave it to him, lol.

The table. The snowflake cakes turned out okay! It was hard to get the soft icing (it was Pillsbury on the snowflakes because they make gluten/dairy-free) into the inside parts of the snowflakes and I rolled the fondant out kinda thin so I would have enough. So you can see the chocolate cake through in some places on the sides. I still think it was cute and better than having just another sheet cake for them.

The aftermath. This is what we found after everyone left. =P

Em blowing out the candles. =) Annaliese and Mercy were blowing too and everyone started telling them to stop but I said I think she needs help. So Annaliese blew them out. When Emily "blows" she just makes an 'f' sound. =)

One crowded girl opening presents.

Em blew out the candles and forks went into the cake... I don't know whose forks they were but I thought it was kinda funny.

Em wanted a hat like we saw at the party store, so I whipped one up for her out of scrapbook paper. I made the elastic too tight. She tugged at it and said "Emmy's too big!" and took it off. Hehe!

Party People

Melissa and Abigail

Mercy

Caleb, Emily, Eden, and Whitney

Silas Paul

Abigail & Lainey. Abigail is Kevin & Melissa's. She's a month and 2 days older than Lainey. She has red hair that is so cute. It's long in the middle and short on the sides, so it always looks like a wild mohawk. I think it was Tucker that had a mohawk, too, wasn't it? Too cute!

Annaliese

Emily and Eden

Harper. My hero. =) He made the chili for the party and he was the "boss of the party" 'cause I asked him to be. I don't like being the one saying okay let's eat now or whatever it is that's supposed to happen. =P What a great hubby to do all that so I don't have to. =)

Jonathan, Em, & Samuel. Everyone played with blocks while we waited for the Keltons. They live out in the country in Rose Hill and we got lots of snow!

Baby Pics

These are the pictures I was talking about, Dad. They could use some cropping, though. =)

Fun Party!

This is the first time we have ever had a party at our house. Isn't that sad? But it was SO fun. Harper was really freaked out about how many people were going to be in here, where they would fit, how big of a mess all the kids would make... But it was all great. He said after everyone left that he is so glad we did it. That makes me smile BIG. =)

Not a lot of time to blog, because Harp's waiting for me to Wii with him... But the highlight for Emily was getting nailpolish. She was opening presents surrounded by the girls (okay two of them, but they were ready to play with everything she opened and she was getting pretty frustrated with Annaliese grabbing stuff from her). She opened a bag from Ashley with hair clips and a necklace and bracelet (which got grabbed up quickly by someone else) and then saw the nailpolish. It was like going after toys in a pinata the way she gasped, yelled "NAILPOLISH!!" and grabbed a bottle in each hand. Hahaha! It was the cutest thing ever. She was gonna be sure to get it before the other girls.

Okay I'll blog more later and post pics. Gonna Wii with my man. =)

More To Do & Problem #1

I forgot put up streamers and make the popcorn balls.

And POOF my round cake pans are missing. I've looked everywhere! Nancy is at Curves and all the other Wisner girls are sleeping. =P I could keep calling other people to borrow some but I would probably spend too long on the phone and I should just start doing other things and wait for Nancy to get home. And stop blogging - that would help. =)

To Do

Tomorrow is Em's party, at 11:30, and we're making chili. I thought that sounded good and because it's super-easy to make gluten-free, it was definitely the #1 choice. Tonight, we're going to dinner at Dustin and Ginger's house. I can't wait to see her belly! =) Anyway so that means we will probably be up a little late tonight and I want to only have the chili to think about tomorrow morning. So, here is my to do list for today:

Get the table ready - tablecloth, bowls, plates, napkins, cups, silverware, confetti, cute little snowmen...

Make the cakes - it's going to take two to make a big enough snowman. I don't know where my round pans are. May have to use rectangles and cut the whole thing out... And Katy's bringing me a gluten-free cake mix to make for her family (she offered to do it, but I didn't want her to have to worry about it). So I might make that tonight, depending on when she brings it. I don't know what I'll do with that cake. Cupcakes? I thought about making a semi-thin cake and cutting out snowflakes with my huge snowflake cookie cutter and then using the fondant because it's gluten-free. But I don't know if I could make the snowflakes look good with it or not. Maybe I'll go for it. Or do some cupcakes as backup and then try the snowflakes. We'll see how my day goes. =) I think it will be hard to cut around the bottom of the snowflakes. Hmm. Maybe we just don't do that.

Anyway then I have to make the buttercream icing and the fondant, color some fondant (which I discovered takes a loooong time), and assemble my snowman.

And I need to soak beans tonight and maybe cut up the onions for the chili. Okay gonna go eat breakfast.

My Little Texan

For the past couple of days, many one-syllable words have become two-syllable words. Ow, yeah, hurt, help... Can't think of more but there are many more. =P

And now it's "Sir, yes, sir!" Hahaha!

Chalk

The ground is covered in ice, it's stinkin' cold outside, but I am saving my TP tubes to make sidewalk chalk. What? I guess I'll be ready as soon as we can play outside!! =)

Triple Garlic Yumminess Pasta

Thanks, Dana!

So I can search for it easily with my label thingie, it's at http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=recipe1588

Ginger Ale

Mmmm, Harper made ginger ale last night. We're waiting on some keg parts to actually be able to drink it, but as soon as they come, we only have to wait 20 minutes to have it carbonated, I think! I tasted it warm, concentrated, and uncarbonated and I think it's gonna be good! I'm excited!!

Bathing My Kid

lol Okay I realized I never responded to Jaime's comment asking what exactly I wash on my daughter. Hehe! Well I'm not supposed to put soap on her legs, but I do every once in a while 'cause that's just a little gross especially if she has a tinkle accident or something. So like maybe every other week she gets soap on her legs. Normally, I'll soap her hair and chest and back and get her little pits. And I usually wash her arms with soap but not all the time because they get bumpy too. But not as bumpy as her legs. I wipe her legs with a washcloth without soap and she washes her own "bommen" without soap. The pediatrician said to use something like Cetaphil on her instead of smelly baby lotion. So I use generic Cetaphil. It has been working pretty well. She's almost soft, even! =) Now everyone knows how often my girl's legs get soaped and how dirty she really is. lol =)

Garlic Noodles?

Speaking of recipes... Jen, do you know where that super-mega-triple-ultra garlic pasta recipe was? If you remember, I won't go digging through your archives. =) I have 3 bulbs of garlic just hanging out waiting for me to find that recipe. =) =)

Fortune Cookie Recipe

1 c. soft butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Mix butter, sugar, & egg until smooth. Add other ingredients & mix.

Lightly flour surface & roll half of dough very thin. Use a circle cookie cutter to cut the dough.

Put the fortune on it, fold it in half and then in half again. I think the way I ended up doing it was to fold it in half and then set the folded edge down on my finger, perpendicular to my finger, so the second fold would have a good lump in it. Did that make sense? Well I'm sure you will figure it out easily. =)

Bake for about 10 min or until lightly browned.

Fondant Recipe

This is mostly for me, for future reference. This is where to find the fondant recipe if I manage to forget how to make it.

I am SO a fondant convert. I tried this for the first time tonight practicing with it for Em's snowman cake for Sat. I have never in my life made a pretty cake. I am no good at spreading the icing and getting it pretty. Fondant is a totally different story. I love it! How can you mess up?? I made cupcakes tonight because they cooked faster and I put 7 of them together to make a flower because I thought that would be good practice getting the curves to look good with the fondant. It didn't even take practice. It just happened. So amazing. Fondant is so cool. I am so cool. Haha, at least I feel so cool with my pretty flower cake. Well it would have been prettier if I hadn't used all white fondant, but I figured it's easy enough to color it. I couldn't make it and not eat some, so I cut into it but maybe I'll take a pic of what's left. =)

Fried

We got this new hard drive today and enclosure. The enclosure fried the new hard drive and then the new hard drive fried our computer. Hopefully just the power supply, but we won't know for a few days at least. Bummer, huh? I hope I didn't lose all my pics and videos of my little cuties. =( They were backed up until the first week of December, but still. I don't want to lose anything!

Oh, Goodness! & Yes, Sir!

The other day, I was washing dishes and didn't notice Em digging into a bag of charcoal. She pulled a piece out and saw that it was all over her hand and she said "Oh, goodness!!" and put it down. lol I thought it was the cutest thing ever. And if she has a #2 accident in her panties, she will say "Oh, goodness!" when I take them off.

She has also started saying "Yes, sir!" to me, in a little soldier voice. She told me Larry says it. So it must be in Gideon. I think it's so funny. It's not even just when I ask her to do something, but even when I say "Hey, Em, let's play with the blocks!" Hahaha! Kids are SO much fun.

How or What

Ashley blogged not too long ago about someone saying "You can teach how to think, or you can teach what to think, but it's very difficult to do both." So I've been thinking about how true this is for the last week or so. Thinking about how the school system is only teaching kids what to think and not how. If they taught them how to think, they wouldn't think the thinks they are telling them to think. I think this is why Americans in general are so stupid. You can only remember so many things that you've just memorized. You use it or lose it and you can't possibly keep using it all.

In the math department at LHS, they were so desperate to get kids to pass the end-of-grade tests that they were just teaching them how to get the answer as quickly as possible. The kids had no concept of linear equations. No clue what the lines meant or what the intersection of two lines represented or how they had anything to do with the equations other than "that's what shows up when I graph it on my calculator." They were finding solutions to systems of equations by graphing them and using the function to find the intersection. They had NO CLUE what any of it meant. Then I got to teach them Alg II and Geometry. Yikes! If someone is in the habit of learning what to think, it's even harder to break that and go back and teach them how to think. They have all this "the answer is in the calculator" trash in their minds cluttering their already-fried brains.

Don't even get me started on English (I had a horrible teacher in HS who was all about telling people what to think and you got marked wrong if you disagreed with her). And especially don't get me started on Science. The questions at the ends of the chapters that they claim are "critical thinking" are phrased in such a way that there can only be one answer -
their answer - whether it's really true or not.

Another TV Day

The house is chilly except for the girls' rooms and the basement because we have space heaters going. Harp put a blanket up at the bottom of the stairs to the basement and it gets so warm down here now. We're going to get a shower curtain rod and put a permanent curtain at the bottom of the stairs. The blanket is thumb-tacked right now (surprisingly, it's held up, but it's not pretty).

I want Em to rest and get better, so I'm keeping her still with movies. Yesterday we watched 2 VeggieTales, part of The Prince of Egypt before I realized that the whole movie is pretty much not for little kids. I had Em looking away so much and was trying to explain what was going on. And I cried telling her why Jochebed was sending Moses off in a basket. I don't know that I ever really thought about it that much after I had kids. They really change your perspective on everything, don't they? I can't imagine sending my baby off like that. But then I also think about what (I think it was) Corrie ten Boom's dad said about how he doesn't give them their train ticket until they are ready to get on the train and it's like how God gives us grace in the situation. And not to worry about what might happen or how we might respond because when it happens, God is there giving us strength. And it's so true. I was thinking about all this last night while I was nursing Lainey and if someone else had gotten in a car wreck on the highway with their two babies I would probably be saying "I can't imagine if that happened to me. Would I freak out? I probably would." But I didn't freak out at all and I had perfect peace the whole time, even when we didn't know if Emily was brain damaged or not and her eyes were rolling back. This is such a rabbit trail from "We watched movies all day yesterday." lol But there are situations my friends are in now or have been in recently that I can't imagine being in myself but I have seen God give them strength and grace and it's just awesome. And I know if it was me in the situation, God would be giving me the strength and grace I need. Praise God! I'm just overwhelmed by His goodness right now.

Then the kids had naps. I tried to, but when I finally almost got to sleep, I thought I heard Em get up. I went to her door to listen and nothing... So I tried to go back to sleep and after 10 min, gave up and went for the coffee. Then I talked to my mom for a while and played with Blurb. You know they publish blogs? Maybe a lot of places do, I don't know. But I have been telling Harp for a loooong time it would be so cool to do that. There goes my fortune!! =P Oh well. Actually they don't print comments in these books, I don't think, so there's still actually probably a chance. I haven't googled to see who else publishes them. Maybe a bunch of places. Blurb, unfortunatly, doesn't do Blogger blogs yet, or there would be no question what I'd use my coupon for!

Harp said we don't need more books of pics from this year or that because we have my scrapbooks. Good point. I don't know what else to do though. It's $8.95 shipping so it ought to be worth that much to me to do it. Maybe a book of pictures from Lainey's birth. And that way I can just scrapbook a couple pages instead of a bunch of the birth. Or put lots of little pics on two pages. That's a thought!

Well Em's watching Gideon right now. I get SO sick of TV just halfway into a movie. I feel like it just sucks something out of me. This is a fairly recent (in the past 2 years?) thing for me, but I just am not so entertained by it anymore. And I used to play hours of Tony Hawk when I came home from teaching HS, but now I can hardly stand to play one game! I guess I should chill out and not always want to "accomplish" something. Even if it's a scrapbook page or sewing project, I want something to show for my time. Well except for playing with the girls. I like that. =)

I was going to make bread today but it's soooo cold I don't want to be in the kitchen and the bread probably wouldn't rise anyway!

Tax News?

Okay this didn't come from the most reliable source, but you can take the time to verify. =) This is from our realtor's newsletter. Not that she has been proven unreliable, but ya know, I just mean I didn't hear it from the IRS...

When you've reviewed your home telephone bill, cell phone bill, or, if you're a business owner, company phone bill, did you ever wonder, every month, why you're charged something called a "Federal Excise Tax"? Did you notice that your phone company stopped charging this 3% tax on the long-distance portion of your bill as of this past August?

And did you know that you're eligible to file for a refund on your 2006 tax return for the excise tax paid on long-distance service billed to you for the past three years?

The Federal Excise Tax was imposed in 1898 to help pay for the Spanish-American War. The U.S. had no income tax, so this was a tax on wealthy Americans back when phone service was considered a luxury. The war ended after six months, but Americans continued paying the tax until the government (after a long legal battle) decided to discontinue it in 2006.

Refunds will be part of 2006 tax returns filed in 2007, and the IRS will even pay you interest on your refund. (And then, of course, tax you on the interest you're paid!)

Pooey

Long story about this order I made from Oriental Trading back in October...

Ordered, but put in Longview with my street address here. I had been addressing birth announcements (which I never sent, come to think of it) and it was just in my head...

Saw the confirmation, thought what??, and called them to change it. They said no biggie, it will ship to KS.

2 weeks later, still no box. I call and it's in Texas. =(

So they send me a new one but 3 of my things are out of stock now so I don't get them. And it comes too late for my mom to get her stuff out of the box (she was visiting). =(

The box from TX gets back to Oriental Trading and they credit me for the 3 things I didn't get, but they don't credit me enough. Also, they said when the credit showed up, I would know it was back and could call and get the things that were out of stock from that box.

I call and get the rest of the money credited and they can't sell me the three things that they now have because it's not in stock in the computer.

I thought that was the end of the story.

Well Dec 27 I got a credit for the full amount of my purchase (so really they gave me money for the things that were out of stock and I got all that for free). I just noticed it when I was updating our budget thing last week. I thought cool maybe they decided to credit it back just because the whole thing was so messed up and lousy.

So I called to make sure and nope. They don't know why they accidentally gave me my money back and now they are billing me (because they don't have my cc# on file and I was on a corded phone two floors away from it) for it. Poo. =(

Blurb & Sicko

My parents are at this professional photographers' expo and they gave me a coupon thing for $30 off a book from Blurb.com. I'm trying to decide what to do. You can get tons more pages for the same price if you go soft cover, so I'll probably do that. The coupon will get me a free 120-page soft cover book. Do I put the pics on order by date? How many to a page? Varying or the same layout on every page? I'm thinking all black and white pics with black background and plain white borders. I was going to do 2005-2006 but it looks like it might be a pain to get the pics in order. I can auto insert pics if I don't care where they go. So maybe I'll just do one year and let them be in whatever order. 9 pics to a page? I'll let Harp look at it and maybe he'll decide for me so I don't have to think about it anymore. =P

Em is sick and we have been hanging out in the basement watching VeggieTales and stuff all day. Boring, boring, boring, but I don't want her running around and the rest of the house is chilly. Gonna go snuggle her while the snuggling is good. =)

Random Pics

Emily in the giraffe dress Terrie made her. =) Lainey's is huge, but I think they'll fit the girls at the same time in the spring or summer.

Matching sisters before church. Desiree and Angela matched each other yesterday too and they all thought that was pretty cool. =)

Laughing Sisters Video

Scrappin'

Last night was supposed to be craft night, but I had to cancel it because the roads were really bad. So I scrapbooked after the girls were in bed and Harper played a ton of Zelda. =P In the past few days I have gotten probably 10 pages done. Yay! Pics will come eventually... =)

New Teeth

Em has her top canines (Harp says that's what they are - the fang ones) coming in. She was a toot for a couple of days and now I know why. =P They are out now and she is happy again. Whew!

Fuuny Girls

This pic is a week and a half old. I was going to upload the video, but never got around to it. I'll start it in a sec. I went to the basement to rotate laundry or something and I heard Lainey cracking up. Whatever it was was absolutely hilarious. I went up to find Emily sitting on her! lol

Harp and LJ

Pretty Snowflake Girl

My girl loves anything snow-related. =)

Matching Jammies

Emily loves wearing matching jammies with her sister. =)

Teenagers

So stinking true.

Along the same lines, it is so incredibly obnoxious when someone tells my 2-year-old she looks sexy (yeah, it happened) or asks her if she has a boyfriend. Or when someone tries to pit sisters against each other, essentially encouraging them to hate each other. Someone asked Emily the other day which one was the pretty one - her or her sister. What????

Massager

Last night at Olive Garden, the buzzer thing went off and I gave it to Em to take to the hostess. Emily felt it vibrate and said "massager!!" =)

So Spastically Hyper

I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hyper. The girls are down for a nap now and I'm bouncing off the walls. I have been for hours.

a) Ashley is pregnant. Eeeeeek!
b) Harp gets off at 3:30 today. Eeeeeek!
c) Tonight is craft night! Eeeeeek!
d) I also just chugged a cup of coffee on a mostly empty stomach. =D

Blahbadabadabadah!

Hobby Lobby & Cryin'

About a week ago, Em found her neck brace that she got when we had the car accident. I don't know why I kept it - I guess I thought it would be fun to play doctor with someday, lol... Anyway I put it on her and I asked her where she got it and she thought for a second and said "Um... Hobby Lobby!"

And one day last weekend, we woke up to Emily crying downstairs. Harper went down and found her and said "Emmy, what are you doing down here, honey?" And she stopped and said, "Um, crying?" lol Too funny.

Crayons Don't Belong In Pockets

Well. Hmm. Yesterday we didn't see Caleb and Eden because Em was sort of a cranky toot in the morning and had to have a nap. Then Harp came home for lunch and then we ran some errands in the afternoon. We were going to see them today if the weather wasn't going to be bad tomorrow, but it is supposed to be bad, so they are on their way to Ohio right now.

Ashley came over today and we had fun mostly talking and playing with the kids, but we worked on the crayon stains too. I hadn't read the comments about it but it's funny because we tried boiling water and baking soda, lol. We were kinda desperate. What I think worked the best was WD-40, then dish soap, and then OxyClean (or Sun something, but it's the same thing). It still wasn't all coming out, though. So I'm going to wash it and see what happens.

Tonight, we went out to Olive Garden. We haven't been there since we left Texas, I don't think. It kinda brought back memories. We used to always cash in our HarrisPoll and MyPoints points for Olive Garden gift cards and that would be our date every few months. And Hannah would always wait on us. =) I miss Hannah.

I have been scrapbooking a little. I have gotten a few pages done. A 2-page zoo spread, a page about star cup, a page of Em painting, and my first ultrasound of Lainey. I think I'll do a little more before bed. Harper's playing an Army game.

Tomorrow is craft night, so I hope the weather isn't horrible. Or maybe we'll get stuck at the church building and that could be fun too. =) A scrapbooking lock-in. =)

Lotion?

This morning, Em was acting cranky and sleepy, it was time for LJ to go back to sleep anyway, and I was wiped because I had ladies' study last night and then stayed up to cut Harper's hair. So we all went back to bed. Well I had already made my bed so I took a hot bath instead. Then I read some of Exodus and then I went back to sleep. I heard Em get up and I told her to come into my room. Then I fell back asleep. I was aware that she got on my bed and I thought good - I at least will know she's not consuming WD-40 or playing with my razor... I fell back asleep. Then I hear "Oooooh, lotion!!" I bolted upright and what did I see? My dear little Emily covered in an entire travel-size thing of baby soap, rubbing it into her legs. All over the bed... But I guess it was worth the few extra minutes of sleep. =P The pediatrician said not to use soap on her legs because they get really dry and bumpy (it's allergy-related, but just lotion will get it almost gone). So after she had soap soaked all the way to her little bones, I washed her off and put lotion on her. She said "Emmy likes lotion!!" Ha Ha Ha. I know.

Discouraged

I finally started working on my giant load of crayon-stained clothes. I spent well over half an hour working on it yesterday. I hardly made a dent. The WD-40 works, but not quickly. You have to scrub the stain out still with dish soap and that takes forever. You have to put it on a paper towel and basically scrub the stain into the paper towel so you have to keep moving it around... I know, this sounds like no biggie. But most of these clothes have so much crayon on them that they are now half covered in WD-40. And I don't know if that is going to wash out. I might have to go back and scrub the WD-40 out with the dish soap, too. And the darker crayon stains I'm not getting all the way out. My hand started to hurt just scrubbing the first shirt... These clothes are looking less and less like I even want to keep them. But I know it would be dumb to throw it all away. =( But I might throw away the underwear. My house smells like WD-40. Poo, poo, poo. =( I would pay big money for something easy at this point. Maybe I'll try to find that ink remover stuff. It's mentioned on the Crayola website, but I couldn't find it when I looked before. I'll look harder.

Rollin' Both Ways

I forgot to blog that Lainey rolled the other way on Sunday. The other way being from her belly to her back...

Goofy Em

Em is too funny. Earlier, we were eating yogurt and she put the lid back on hers and said "[There's] more in there, goofy!"

Just now, she put a baby bottle under her shirt to fill it with milk. =P

We went grocery shopping and she wanted to share everything in the cart with Lainey. Lainey got a yogurt cup on her head, some birthday candles, three eggs...

I love how she says Popple: pop-po =)
